Environmental and Social Impact Assessment

An Environmental and Social Impact Assessment is a voluntary assessment conducted to identify, evaluate, and develop management measures for environmental and social impacts associated with the construction and operation of a project. The purpose of the environmental assessment process is:

(a) To support the goals of environmental protection and sustainable development.

(b) To integrate environmental protection and economic decisions at the earliest stages of planning an activity.

(c) To predict environmental, social, economic, and cultural consequences of a proposed activity and to assess plans to mitigate any adverse impacts resulting from the proposed activity.

(d) To provide for the involvement of the public, department of the Government, and Government agencies in the review of the proposed activities.

Environmental & Social Management Framework (ESMF)

ESMF describes the principles, objectives, and approach to be followed to minimize or mitigate the adverse environmental and social impacts resulting from the implementation of a project. The ESMF identifies the potential impacts of various sub-project activities and outlines the indicative management measures required to effectively address the same. Appropriate institutional arrangements towards implementing the indicative measures are detailed in the framework.

Biodiversity/ Forestry Conservation and Management

Literature reviews and objective analysis of a wide range of disturbance influences on biodiversity in human-altered landscapes and conservation planning: integrating human resource use and biodiversity and identifying areas of high biodiversity value.

Resettlement & Rehabilitation Action Plan/Framework

The upcoming or expanding projects have a bearing on the people’s lives that are immediately affected by the project activities. The objective here is to provide a plan for the resettlement and rehabilitation of the affected people so that their losses will be compensated and their standards of living will be improved or at least restored to the pre-project levels in a sustainable manner.

Gender Issues & Child Labor

This sector comprises of assessing and/or monitoring social and gender impacts and to provide recommendations on how projects may be better designed to ensure optimal social outcomes. Other activities include developing and/or implementing social/gender impact assessments and developing gender indicators for performance monitoring.

Planning is a critical aspect of all environmental treatment, control, and conservation projects whether you require a new site for a grass roots facility or an evaluation of future environmental standards and their impact on operating and investment budgets. The focus of our consulting activities is at the regulatory, process, and business level of environmental issues.

Environmental Management Plan

It is the synthesis of all proposed mitigative and monitoring actions, set to a timeline with specific responsibility assigned and follow-up actions defined. The EMP is one of the most important outputs of the environmental assessment process.

Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Social Assessments

Assessments are an interactive process consisting of steps, which, when undertaken in sequence, enable continual improvement in decision making. Assessment is the term applied to a logical and systematic method of establishing the context, identifying, analyzing, treating, monitoring, and communicating environment, health, and safety risks associated with any activity, function, or process in a way that will enable organizations to minimize losses and maximize opportunities.

Environmental monitoring and pollution control

Environmental monitoring describes the processes and activities that need to take place to characterize and monitor the quality of the environment. Pollution control means the control of emissions and effluents into air, water, and/or soil. Without pollution control, the waste products from consumption, heating, agriculture, mining, manufacturing, transportation, and other human activities, whether they accumulate or disperse, will degrade the environment. In the hierarchy of controls, pollution prevention and waste minimization are more desirable than pollution control.

Groundwater quality monitoring

Groundwater quality monitoring is a complex process which provides data for groundwater protection management. Analysis and implementation of the data obtained from the relevant monitoring programmes support the planning, strategy and policy for groundwater resources protection and quality conservation.

Environmental assessment

It is a process whose breadth, depth, and type of analysis depend on the proposed project. EA evaluates a project's potential environmental risks and impacts in its area of influence and identifies ways of improving project design and implementation by preventing, minimizing, mitigating, or compensating for adverse environmental impacts and by enhancing positive impacts.

Preventing pollution at source

For many years, efforts to control industrial pollution have focused on "end-of-the-pipe" cleanup -- scrubbing, burning, or otherwise abating pollution just before it leaves the plant; but, there is another way. Rather than creating pollution and then trying to clean it or contain it, industrial polluters could instead develop cleaner production methods and use less toxic chemicals in the first place. We show how cost-effective pollution prevention be implemented in an industrial setting.

Waste minimization

Waste minimization is the process and the policy of reducing the amount of waste produced. It involves efforts to minimize resource and energy use during manufacture. For the same commercial output, usually the fewer materials are used, the less waste is produced. Waste minimization usually requires knowledge of the production process, cradle-to-grave analysis (the tracking of materials from their extraction to their return to the Earth) and detailed knowledge of the composition of the waste.
