Sustainability & Business ExcellenceCorporate Responsibility assessmentsCompanies are increasingly held accountable for their corporate responsibility performance. An assessment is a valuable tool for strengthening your corporate responsibility strategy and for communicating your risk management performance across business areas in your company, as well as to investors, regulators, and other stakeholders. It provides external validation of your ability to manage risk related to your corporate responsibility. It can help manage shareholder and stakeholder expectations and signal your commitment to national, international, and/or industry standards for corporate responsibility. CSR and sustainability reportingIt is the way a company reports its activities and impacts relating to financial, environmental, and social issues. Corporate sustainability reporting has a long history going back to environmental reporting. The first environmental reports were published in the late 1980s by companies from the chemical industry which had serious image problems. The other group of early reporters was a group of engaged SME with very advanced environmental management systems. The European development in the 1990s was influenced by EMAS and the growing number of EMAS Statements. At the end of the century more than 5000 EMAS Statements were available to the public. At the end of the 1990s more and more companies started to enlarge their environmental reports to include social issues and sustainability reporting developed. The most important drivers for the quality of sustainability reports are the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative, award schemes (from ACCA) or rankings. Benchmarking of sustainability performanceBenchmarking provides companies with a qualitative assessment of the extent to which they have adopted sustainable management practices. It measures performance against a number of characteristics that together represent the qualities needed to attain leadership and gain competitive advantage through sustainability. Sustainability and CR Risk profilingReporting on your CSR programs with a clear world class CSR or Sustainability Report helps you to increase trust and confidence amongst your stakeholders. A comprehensive CSR Report can help your organization to develop a comprehensive and accurate risk profile and non-financial risk management system and raise the competitiveness and profile of your company in the marketplace. Ethical supply chain managementBeing an ethical company is not enough anymore. These days, leading brands are judged by the company they keep. Consumers, investors, business partners, regulators, and media organizations now expect a company and its entire supply chain to be ethical. Most companies lack the ability and infrastructure to quickly contact most or all of the companies in their supply chain, and communicate with their suppliers on critical issues of ethics and compliance. Supplier Ethics Management (SEM) is not a new risk management discipline. SEM simply involves the application of existing risk management tools, programs, and practices to new risk-populations (i.e. business partners operating outside the traditional “four walls” of your corporate entity). Your company’s legal and compliance professionals already know how to manage and mitigate ethics and compliance risks among your own employees. With very little additional time, money, or administrative effort, they can do the same thing among the thousands (or tens of thousands) of companies in your supply chain. Social Accountability management system: SA 8000SA8000 is a global social accountability standard for decent working conditions. It was developed and overseen by Social Accountability International (SAI). It contracts with a global accreditation agency, Social Accountability Accreditation Services (SAAS), that licenses and oversees auditing organizations to award certification to employers that comply with SA8000. Dominic A. Tarantino, Chairman of Price Waterhouse World Firm described SA8000 in 1998 as "the first ever universal standard for ethical sourcing... It provides a common framework for ethical sourcing for companies of any size and any type, anywhere in the world. SA8000 sets out provisions for issues such as trade union rights, the use of child labor, working hours, health and safety at work, and fair pay." Enterprise social compliance assessmentsIn today's marketplace, consumers are increasingly interested and informed regarding the labor conditions under which the products they buy were produced. As the world economy is becoming globalized, more and more buyers are going to the developing and under-developing countries for sourcing products at lower cost. At the same time, they would face a huge potential risk from the poor ethics of the suppliers from the developing and under-developing countries. Therefore, the business giants require strict ethical auditing when they choose the supplier. The buyers need someone to serve them such ethical auditing. On the other hand, to cooperate with these buyers well, the suppliers have the demand to improve themselves to reach the ethical requirement. It brings in prospects of providing such ethical auditing and consulting service to the relative suppliers as well as the buyers. CSR policy and strategyEvery corporation needs to develop a social responsibility policy that defines the limits of their activities. Corporations like Enron and Mattel have encountered issues of corporate responsibility that highlight the need for clearly defined ethical boundaries. You need to seek input and perform due diligence when creating a corporate social responsibility policy. We can assist you in developing or reviewing your corporation's CSR policy. We can help you to get an overview of your corporation's internal governance documents and highlight gaps in relation to CSR and governance bodies which are most suited for implementation. Materiality assessmentMateriality helps companies assess the relative importance of an issue based on its impact on business strategy as well as its impact on society. Materiality assessments are used to help us focus attention on those issues that are most important to our internal and external stakeholders. We develop our assessment process in line with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 guidance on materiality and completeness. With extensive experience in materiality assessment for both individual companies and entire industrial sectors, we can help you prioritize issues that substantively influence your stakeholders and, in turn, influence the success of your business. Stakeholder engagementIntegrating your stakeholder's views into your strategy, services, and policy is not easy, but is increasingly necessary. The shift from managing, liaising, or consulting stakeholders to genuinely engaging with them will bring a greater focus on the creation of mutual value and the building of enduring relationships. A stakeholder can be any group or individual who can affect or is affected by the achievement of your organizations objectives. Focusing on stakeholder engagement approaches has the potential to transform your key relationships. We offer both in-house consulting and training. |
